Tors has created her own exclusive range of accessories including jewellery, scarves and handbags. Tors makes each piece meticulously so they are little works of art that come alive when worn.
I design and make my accessories using a wide range of techniques with particular attention to detail. I love the versatility, colour & textures of fabric, yarn & thread and experimenting with exciting colour mixes to create my one-of-a-kind accessories. I like to exploit the sculptural and textural potential of the materials to create my contemporary designs.
In her jewellery designs Tors makes her own unique fabric by layering and joining lots of pieces of different materials and then densely machine stitches to blend colours & give texture. She then uses this 'fabric' to make her jewellery.
Each item is finished by hand beading to accentuate the colours and shape. Tors uses special beading thread so the beads are very secure.
The designs are bold and contemporary and also easy and comfortable to wear as they are not heavy to wear.
Tors Duce works from her home studio in Burnham-on-Crouch, a coastal town east of London.
I get a lot of inspiration from the colours and textures around me, especially the light and colours of the beautiful East Coast.
Originally she was a chartered accountant but gave up her career in London when she got M.E. Whilst she was recovering she re-discovered her love for sewing and knitting which she had learnt from both her Nannys. One Nanny was always sewing on her old treadle Singer sewing machine and the other Nanny was a beautiful knitter.
She studied City & Guild achieving a distinction.
She then developed her skills on residential courses, including some with renowned embroiderer Valerie Campbell-Harding where she learnt a lot of innovative ideas about design, colour and texture.
Tors has exhibited nationally and at local galleries throughout East Anglia.
Tors sells most of her work at Lovely & British in London - a beautiful shop in Bermondsey Street
(a short walk from London Bridge Station).
It is easy to find between the Fashion and Textile Museum and the White Cube Gallery.
